How does one adjust mouse speed on the login screen?

I know how to adjust my mouse speed/sensitivity when I'm logged into Windows.

But my work computer got a new mouse, I adjusted the speed, and now when I'm not logged in (that is, on the login screen), the mouse pointer just FLIES around the screen, and I feel like I'm on drugs or otherwise uncoordinated when I try to move the pointer.

I've seen this happen on other computers too.

How does one adjust settings (mouse speed like I mention here, and for laptops, tapping on or off, etc.) for the login screen?

It's hard to do since Windows may not have loaded drivers for the mouse at that point. Is it a USB Wired, USB Wireless or a Wired PS/2 mouse? For the USB I'd assure it's not plugged into a USB 3.0 port [usually blue], have seen issues doing that and fixed by moving the plug to the black USB 2.0 port. You may need to get into the BIOS and Enable Legacy USB support.

I'd not realized that it could be dependent on so many things. The computer at work is a USB 2 mouse. I've seen this also on a PS2 mouse computer though.

When you have a new computer, or a new Windows install, how is the sensitivity on the login screen set?
