Sorry I thought clean install meant formatting the computer and reinstalling the OS...I thought 'repair install' and 'clean install' were two different things.

I have the install files on my desktop soI don't really need an install dvd, do I? All I need is to launch the setup from my desktop and to wait till it's over, is that correct?

They are two different things. What you just said would perform an upgrade. Not what you want.

Burn the install .iso to a DVD. There are many tutorials around here and net you can find to do this properly. Then boot to the DVD using bios setting to do so. You'll have to change the bios setting or hold f8 to choose DVD at startup.

When you go to install, tell it to install where Windows is now. Do not format. It will make a folder called Windows.old that you can check for anything you want to keep once Windows is back up.

When you are satisfied it no longer contains anything valuable, you can use disk cleanup to remove the folder for good.

Ok thanks ! A few things before I proceed...

    - I can't find Windows.old, I thought I would be able to find it when upgrading from Vista to Seven. Will everything on both my C:\ and D:\ be saved in this folder ?

    - I can't find the ISO file, all I have in my folder is this (see picture attached)

    - If I manage to boot Seven from this dvd, will I have to tell my bios to boot from my asus pc next time I turn on my computer or will this be automatic?

    Thanks !

How much free disk space do you have on this hard drive?

I think I have found something interesting:

How to Create and Make Bootable Windows 7 ISO from EXE Plus Setup1.Box and Setup2.Box Files My Digital Life

I should be able to run Seven from there.

Just a question, do you recommend I save everything on an external drive (hopefully someone will lend me one ) or should I be confident that all my files and programs will still be installed?

Thank you. Hope it works !
