Partition Wizard is a good tool, but you'd be a fool to assume it's 100 percent. So I'd backup everything on D and E that I couldn't afford to lose---if you are going to take space from both D and E. I assume it's data of some type. Maybe you already have it backed up?

I'd guess Partition Wizard can be put on a USB stick, although I've never done it. There might be a tutorial on this site.

There's a chance you can do it from the Windows version---not sure. It might allow you to request certain changes, but only apply them during a restart when Window isn't actually loaded. But I'd go with the USB stick method or go buy some CDs.

So from this thread i learned that with partition program i can do what i thought can't be done. Thanks for that, i'll decide what to do, leaning more to doing nothing and waiting for windows 10 for fresh start, nevertheless, thanks for you time and suggestions I will mark this thread as solved!

That could be 4 to 6 months and no one yet knows the sordid and demoralizing details surrounding the "free" upgrade.

I'm waiting for it myself before I can build a new PC.

There was rumour that it will be free for everyone, but m$ squashed that rumour like a bug. Only free thing they provide will be ISO of the windows essentially. People thought they would get licensed win for free, but there's no such thing as free lunch

The screen print in post #1 shows you only have 2% free space on [C].
Some things won't work correctly with that little.

You may not have 4 weeks or even 4 days before you have more problems.

A few "quick-fix temporary helps" you can try:
Move your pagefile off the [C] partition.
Run CCleaner file cleanup.
Run TFC - Temp File Cleaner
Work through Brinks' tutorial:
Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover

Sorry! There is nothing wrong with what you said but the way you said it tickled my funny bone, probably because it's true.

Yes David mate I would like a large drive but a 500GB SSD is all I can run to right now I managed to snag one new (Samsung 850 EVO) at $289 all up so that will not be so bad and I do have the 1TB secondary drive for data but I still am not that good with putting stuff on it to use with the system operating ie use Macrium which I use all the time for weekly images.

Now that is going to be aright but I just have a gut feeling that something is wrong with the way that the drive fills even more when I use that machine to the point of even reinstalling onto the new drive when I get it just in case machine has gone crazy itself.

Frankly since well before Christmas I have had problems with posting here in the forum (they drop out when spell checking or even random) the latest being with WMP - in view of three clean reinstalls using an ISO as well as the original Windows DVD!!

PS Meant to say my brother in the UK did the 10 bit and couldn't get rid of it fast enough opting for 8.

System restore on another partition will not save restore point changes for the [C] drive.
It will save changes for the partition it is on.

Now that you have more space, you might be able to gain more free space by running Windows Update Cleanup.

Yes, i know about windows update cleanup and do it regulary so it doesn't pile up. System restore is a function i never had to use so far on this computer because i'm careful enough to not need it. Maybe i'll turn it on C but lower amount of memory (it was 50% first time i saw it, which is ridiculous for 46gb drive). And i think sys restore on other partion is same just without system settings).
