Unexpected shutdown

I have the following setting for my power options:

1. Low battery action: sleep
2. Critical battery action: hibernate

Unfortunately my laptop never goes to the sleep mode. It directly goes in the hibernate mode.

Once I resume from hibernation the laptop shuts down automatically after coming to the log-in page.

well i think your battery is defected... critical battery = so low that it can barley run!

Check your power settings. What levels have you got set for low battery and critical battery? In percentage terms, critical needs to be set at a lower value than low.

Critical: 5%

Low: 17% (raised to address this issue)

Note: Battery might be the issue, as it used to give me 2 1/2 hour of run time under normal use and now it gives me around 1 1/2.
