If you'd followed the instructions given, then there should also have been a CheckSUR.log file in the CBS folder, and data from SFC in this log, as it goes back as far as 2015-08-03 22:05:18
Sorry Noel. I only asked Gwen to do step #4 to get a CBS file uploaded.

Gwen,
If you can, please work thru each step (except 5) in this post:
Windows Update Posting Instructions

Once you complete step #1, you should have the CheckSur.log file that Noel mentioned.

Once you compress the files, maybe you could upload them to some place like DropBox.

i tried doing step 1 but for whatever reason it's not installing the KB947821 update. It's been saying it's installing it for roughly 2 hours now and I haven't seen any change in it since it started.

Nevermind, it went while I was typing this.

I removed the 7zip.cab files again so it wouldn't surpass the size limit.

The only remaining errors are 'known and irrelevant' - at least according to MS.

You can ignore them, since they arise from an MS screwup which they tell us they are going to fix 'real soon now' (but don't hold your breath!)

So what you're saying is the lagging and freezing is due to MS's programming? That's a little annoying, but I guess as long as it means my computer isn't in significant danger of a complete crash I can cope.

The lagging and freezing isn't due to file system problems - that's all I can say for sure.

I've been having some problems in that today myself (for the first time ever) but haven't yet had time to isolate/identify the cause.
If/when I do, then I'll get back to you - but most of the time the cause is due to a misconfiguration, rather than a problem with the update itself.

Thanks Noel for looking at those log files.

Gwen,
You might want to try these steps:
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
See if those steps help you find what causes the lagging.
