    Can I delete Windows.old(XXX)

I had to reinstall Windows a number of times on my new computer. In each case, a Windows.old(x) was created. After getting the system finalized, I tried to delete the *.old files but was told by Windows that doing so would crash the system (in so many words).

The files are taking up about 30 GB. Since this is on an SSD, it is taking up a substantial amount of space that I would like to recover. Can I safely delete these files with no adverse effects?

    Thanks,
    Burt

As long as you're sure you don't need them then, yes, it's OK to delete them. I use Disk Cleanup from the drive's Properties dialog and click on the option to "Cleanup system files".
