How do I disable system, restore when installing software and updates

As the title says how do I keep system restore enabled for scheduled/manual runs but disabled for when windows update is ran and when I install software.

There is a guide on this forum to the reverse (disable on schedulers only), I want it the other way round.

    Thanks

System restore is either on or off, that`s it.

Why would you want it disabled when installing software, that`s one of it`s main purposes.

I have system restore enabled for various drives for file snapshots, everytime I run an installer I get a 2 min wait with lots of i/o thrashing due to all those snapshots been updated, I am happy with weekly snapshots on a schedule but no need on every installer.

Do one thing, click on windows main button (in that text box) (in winxp run) type services.msc, click on windows update. Then you can do as you like.manual,automatic.
