You said startup repair, I'm not sure why you are still trying to do one, you obviously don't have a problem booting or getting into windows if you are attempting a backup.

I don't know how to fix that error myself, but it's all the more reason to do a repair install as I mentioned.

If you can get away with just copying what you want to the external drive that might be a better option for now.

hi to all on the forum

derekimo thank you for your reply.regarding that reply my apologies, of course i meant repair install.i am so confused and angry with all this crap on my computer.like i said my ext hdd failed to do the backup and now i cannot access the disc.sfc /scannow some files could not be fixed-format-f.jpg and also this sfc /scannow some files could not be fixed-cyclic-drive-f.jpg

i ran chkdsk /f and it reported all 32 unreadable files had been "processed".bottom line is i still cannot access the hdd (which is loaned to me).i need some serious help please.by the way i had to save my backup to my D drive just wondering if it will effect my repair install.the latest warning is this one

sfc /scannow some files could not be fixed-f-not-available.jpg

And the problems persist, you're not having much luck are you?

That is yet another area I don't know much about, you can start a thread in http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/ but keep it about the harddrive.

There are others that know about those things, but don't get the thread to convoluted with too many problems it just makes things harder to fix.

You can refer to this thread but keep it about the HDD they have specific tests you can do.

I don't know how much you are trying to backup but it mat be a good idea to just start thinking about getting another external.
