A Never Ending Stream of '... is not responding'
I even got the message while attempting to post here - sevenforums.com is not responding. If I wait a few minutes the message goes away and I can continue.
Sometimes I can be online for 15 minutes or so without incident. Usually it's within minutes of opening a page.
- I have run a full Security Essentials scan - it can up clean.
- From an elevated command I ran sfc /scannow. It detected no integrity violations
- I updated and ran Malwarebytes. It found nothing
- I ran JRT tool and AdwCleaner. AdwCleaner found a couple of trivialities. Cleaning them and rebooting failed to fix a thing
- I have run IE11 without add-ons. I still get the same 'not responding' msg
- I have reset Internet Explorer, have used Firefox. All to no avail
Security Essentials was taking close to 50% of my CPU, so I turned off real-time protection. All that did was make the castle turn red. But it was still consuming half my memory. I opened Programs and Features and saw no Security Essentials, so I opened Revo Uninstaller. It wasn't there either, so I downloaded MS Fixit Tool 50535 - the Security Essentials Uninstaller. That gave me an error (just saying that it couldn't complete the task), but the castle did disappear from the system tray. Taskmgr still shows MsMpEng running, but only at 29640 K , and 0 Pct.
I'm sort of at a loss.
Edit - I did manage to get Security Essentials gone from the taskmgr by running that Uninstaller again. Of course I now have no protection, and while the not responding problem is not quite as pervasive, it certainly is still a major problem. I even got it a few hours ago while disconnected and playing Spider Solitaire.
