Windows 7: Extremely slow Windows startup

Well, about a week or two after my extremely slow boot on Windows 7 seem to have been resolved... by what I thought was a set of Microsoft Updates.... BOOM! My desktop Win7 machine has returned to an extremely slow boot (and slow shot down) similar to what I had which was 5-7 minute to see a login dialog box. During the interim everything booted up and shut down fast...

I have no idea why this happened. When I first noted it, there had been NO FURTHER MICROSOFT UPDATES... so maybe they are off the hook for blame.

The only thing I can think of is that my hardware/motherboard has an intermittent causing the problem. Guess I'll have to live with it ...

@wrogerswx

From your system specs.

Antivirus MS Defender (MSSE)
If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials MS Defender should be turned off in Windows 7.

Hi Walt,

See my reply (#10) to your previous post which is very similar to this one & mine.

I have no idea what post #10 has to do with Microsoft Defender.
I'm just recommending that you verify the Microsoft Defender is turned off if you are using Microsoft Security Essentials. MSE should of turned Defender off but it cost nothing to verify.

As of Oct 15, 2016... my Win 7 system still reboots to login at over six minutes even after 1) All Microsoft Updates and rollups completed to this date 2) Fully rebooted three times 3) Windows Defender was ON, but Microsoft Security Essentials (MSSE) was NOT installed (Also turned off Defender... to no avail).

Will just have to live with a 6:20 reboot time until some "magic" improves things...

I can now reproduce what's causing the long boot time of 7 minutes! The problem is solved... by that I mean... a return to fast boot of Windows 7 in under 35 secs when I have a SATA drive plugged into a Kingwin internal sata doc (system is booting off a separate SSD drive). As soon as I unplug or remove that drive... boom... slow boot times. Strange thing is that the FAST boot still remains after I've powered down the Kingwin internal dock but leave a drive inserted. Can anyone figure that one out? Walt Rogers

SOLVED - Extremely slow Windows startup - internal sata dock

I can no reproduce what's cause my slow (extremely) windws boot times. Turns out I have a Kingwin internal sata doc... and when I have any sata drive installed, Windows returns to a fast boot. This even works if the Kingwin internal dock is powered down. Walt Rogers
