    Hi,
Now that you have an ssd you might give this a read
SSD Tweaks and Optimizations in Windows 7

Samsung ssd make it easy to do this stuff since it has Samsung magician that has preset options to choose from.

David, which of the 2 options would you recommend to disable it, as shown in the link?

    Thanks.

Basically I have Indexing disabled by Option 1 - disabling the service.
    That turns it off completely.
Option 2 turns it off per drive, so it could still run if any drive isn't turned off.

It depends on how, where, and what you search for what would be best for you.
I mostly use File Locator Lite for searches, and it doesn't use indexing.

I've had indexing disabled for many years and it hasn't caused any problems for me.

Actually on Win 7 I disabled it before i knew about SF and the tutorials.
I turned off indexing in Programs and Features, been running like that for apx. 7 years.

    Thanks DavidE,

    I have a few questions:

    1. Disabled Windows search service as shown in option 1.

    2. Still see indexing on drive checked.....should I uncheck that too as in option 2.

Would the automatic daily check for updates be stopped too, and check for MS updates has to be done manually, after disabling indexing?

    Thanks.

    Edit:

Do I need to uncheck Indexing in Windows features, as posted in your screenshot?
