Win 7 Upgrade=EXTREMELY SLOW COMPUTER

I mean it is beyond slow, slower then the computer I replaced with XP as the memory was only expandable to 1.5Gigs. This computer has 4GBRAM and 300 GB Har drive. It is a Garteway NV52, not a power house but should be able to stream Youtube videos with out freezing up. It is god awful slow and multitasking will just cause programs to not respond. If I run ITUNES, that's it, anything else and I am done for.

WTF is this issue? Why can't a brand new computer with a brand new OS run faster then my 2004 POS with XP and 1.5 Gigs of ram? Video streaming constantly jutters and isn't smooth at all. Just slow over all and going from Vista to 7 it is even slower.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clean install.

No tech enthusiast I know would do an in-place Upgrade. Always some level of corruption.

Boot from the DVD and format the HD.

If there was ever a time to do it, it is with the best OS yet. None come close.

Sorry you had to find out the hard way.

Is it not obvious the OP is but a troll? However, looking at the specs for the Gateway NV52, that thing is loaded with crapware. And we all know how much crapware slows things down, right? Also there is more to computer specs then just RAM and HDD space.

I am not a troll, just upset is all. Yes the NV52 is loaded with a lot of crap ware and I have deleted most of it. Yes when I bought this computer it had a free windows 7 update. I was told to simply install it over Vista which I did. Things SEEM to be running better after a night of fighting with the thing but how would I do a clean install at this point?

Pop in the Windows 7 DVD while running the computer, going though the steps you will be asked do you want to perform an Upgrade or a Custom install. You what to do a custom install, this will blow away everything into a "Windows.old" folder.

This is where the bloatware is really insidious - it has even worse effects when you remove it as it clogs the registry, damages system files, and generally creates whole new ways to corrupt your OS. With Vista it was enough to tip them over most of the time.

The solution back then would have been to borrow a clean Vista DVD and format install. It will activate with your license. Instead your bloatware-ruined Vista was a timebomb ready to explode with an in-place Upgrade of Win7, as it has.

Doing the needed clean install now with Win7 is not too late, it is the beginning.

My 5 year old XP Laptop runs smoother and plays Video better. no excuse whatsoever.
