CZ Platinum DDR2 1066 only runs at 800MHz

I don't think this is a Win7 issue, and ask the mods to delete if not applicable.

But if somebody can help, I appreciate. I posted this at the OCZ forum 5 days ago and no answer (I think I am spoiled.... used to the good performance of the SF members):

    Some time ago I installed OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 OCZ2P10664GK in my system.

    Theoretically it should run at 1066MHz, but it only runs at 800MHz. Motherboard (Asus M4A78 plus) manual says it supports DDR2 1066 with AM2+ / AM3 sockets, I have a AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3.

Mobo manual also says it will only support 1066 with one DIMM per channel. I tried in dual channel, one DIMM per channel and only one DIMM (only 2GB), no change.

I have tried some Overclocking settings (5-5-5-18; 2.2V; 533MHz), but all I get is the system refusing to boot

Am I missing something? Is it supposed to work at 1066MHz or not?

    Thanks in advance

I read this on another forum:
To acheive 1066 with this RAM kit you need to adjust your DRAM voltage to {2.1 - 2.2 volts} . Unfortunately there is
no capability to adjust this on your motherboard. You will have to upgrade your motherboard or run at default 800 Mhz speed.

It's not Windows 7...it's your motherboard and/or settings. I have 8 GB of that memory running on an Asus PK5-E motherboard at 1066mhz. Go to the OCZ website and then to their forums. Several of the techies from OCZ hang out there and offer settings for various boards. You can always send them an email with your particulars.

Tks Jacee. My board can be configured, maybe I ought to try only the voltage. With changes on the other parameters, it won't boot

Tks Carl. I did that, no response at all. I will try emailing

DDR2 1066 is not officially recognized by JDEC which is the org. that regulates RAM related stuff. When manufacturers rate RAM @1066, they're really saying that they tested the stuff to run at that bus, but when you put it into the board, it will only run @ 800. So what you have to do is set the bus manually, which you did, and because you set it correctly, the only thing that leaves is the board's limitation. Given this: DDR2 1066*/800
(Due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 is supported by AM2+/AM3 CPU for one DIMM per channel only), you might visist Asus's forums and ask around. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

I just had a look at the M4A78 PLUS Memory Qualified Vendors List (QVL)

And I saw no mention of any RAM supporting 1066 - It's not looking good mate

Could you post a screenshot of CPU-Z's SPD tab?

If it can't be run at 1066, you may be able to at least tighten the timings a bit.

Tks Ragzarok, it helps. I tried their forums, but no answer so far. I also emailed them yesterday, let's see what they say

SEB, I will do it tonight when I get home. I did it and remember I had 4 timings on the table, the last one being 533MHz, at 2.1V. But I will double check.

In the board's manual they have a few supporting 1066MHz. I downloaded that QVL and it makes no sense, it is like it is missing pages. Also the 1200MHZ O.C. feature is new, but there they say to use both modules in the yellow slots, while they say you need to have one per channel for 1066. Even less sense. Unless they mean to O.C. a 800MHz to 1200MHz? I know close to nothing about O.C., but this sounds strange...

    Tks again, more later

Here you go. It has 1066MHz capability, I just need to find out how to set it up

lol, it shows 400 because that's the speed of dual channel RAM, 400x2=800mhz.
