    Intel can't yet replicate published SSD performance drop

    There's been a bit of controversy brewing over whether or not the performance of Intel's SSD X25-M drive degrades as the drive is used due to file fragmentation. PC Perspective has reported that it does; Intel says it can't replicate the data yet. Ars investigates the goings-on.

    Very interesting indeed

    Made me stop to think... Will this trigger another breed of defrag utilities specifically, SSD Defrag tools for desktop applications? I imagine the defragmentation would be many many times more efficient than of HDs even at almost full capacity.

    Shipping out products that are not yet prepared to handle demanding desktop environments are not unheard of just to get an early market share

    I'm sure many of us are just waiting for SSDs to be the common storage media so we could all go solid state without the heavy pricing.
