    nero 7 extras services

Nero services not needed.....I have researched this a bit, but never found good advice on these two services. I do not use any Nero photo service or monitoring, so I am pretty sure these two memory hogs are not needed. Can someone here tell me if that is true, and how can I safely remove them so they do not start up every time. I did not include these functions when I installed the program, and tried to change set up of Nero, but still no luck, they always remain. It is a waste of good memory, I think.

    Hi wheresjerry,

If you want the definitive answer for yourself, you could set the services to manual for a few days and see if they are called, and started by anything, If they are not started from manual after a week you should then be able to safely disable them permanently.

From what you say they should be safe to disable but it's always worth testing on your system

services monitor shows that they are set for manual, though it shows process as running. Can I stop these services from the task manager?

    HI,

Yes it's possible to stop a service from the task manager, although I prefer to click on the services button, at the bottom right of the services tab, and control things from there.

If these services are set to manual and are running that indicates that something is starting them, whether this is another Nero service by default or because something you are doing requires them is more difficult to say but a look at the dependencies of the service should give you a clue as to what is calling the service

Nero is bloatware, very heavy on memory and installation.

I was the same as you looking for a "slimmer" version of neros that doesn't auto run anything, I've only found a program that does all I needed nero to do, maybe that will help you unless you use nero's other features.

I just d/loaded it, not too bad for free! Certainly does the trick well! I burn/trade a lot of concert recordings, and do a lot of taping myself, so a good burning program is a must. I think I'll can Nero now. Funny how History repeats itself!

Glad you like it, you will notice it loads/closes burns and generally is smoother then nero. I was against swapping since I was so used to nero, and got it free with my burner, but it does what I need with very little memory.

Check out this thread for additional great free programs, all of these do not have malware or pop ups either.

Do you have nero in your list of startup programs . If you have not unticked it, it probably is .

Nero is only as big a prog and resource user as you want it to be, and it will not take over file associations if you tell it not to while installing it.

If you choose Custom install you can choose which components you want installed and which, if any, associations to Nero you want.

Most people just click Next, Next, Next when installing Nero and end up with the Ask toolbar and loads of Nero stuff they don't want. They then have a big cry about Nero being so huge and taking over all file associations.

I only have Nero Burning Rom and Nero Vision Express installed.

Edit . Whoops,i was still typing while the last couple of posts were made.
