Also make sure that your backup works by testing by moving a couple steps in the restore process. Mine didn't and I lost my system drive.

Sorry, I did not understand from your second post that the files were missing.
As for restore, I don't use Windows built-in backup because it doesn't encrypt the backup. I use Norton Ghost. I haven't tried a system disk restore under Windows 7 yet, although I did it many times during the beta testing days of XP. Ghost worked flawlessly every time. I also keep all my data on a D: partition. Whatever one uses, Silkman is right that backups should be tested
before they are needed in real life.
