Windows 7: How can I make it faster?

Hey there

Maybe you should upgrade to an SSD for max performance.

A cheaper way would be to change your HDD to a Samsung Spinpoint F3.

Charts, benchmarks 2009 3.5? Desktop Hard Drive Charts, h2benchw 3.12: Avg Read Throughput

In RAID 0 config HD Tune benchmark was 240Mb/s average read.

Your Raptor or Velociraptor is/was quick in it's day (and expensive) but after changing mine for Samsungs, I've never looked back.

It doesnt have the "image" that WD or Seagate have in terms of reliability but it is damn quick.

Other than that as other members have suggested

64bit OS
More RAM
Keeping your rig "lean" in terms of installed programs
IMO 3D Mark is good to benchmark, but it's the everyday performance that counts.

Don't overdo your OCs! It can be expensive if it breaks.

Good luck.

I just picked up a second XFX ATI Radeon 5850. Going to run Crossfire soon as I learn how to configure it correctly.

Also, Im running a 10k RPM Raptor from WD then (2)1TB Seagates
yeah when i thought so, thats a really good processor too and worth every penny, i considered getting it when i was building my rig.

I have 64bit OS, my lowest number on WEI is 5.9 for the HDD everything is 6.7 or higher.

I have all files downloaded go onto the second/third hard drive, and use the Raptor for all my installed programs. Does that work effectively? I use newsgroups, so Im constantly downloading GBs of data and I didn't want that going on in the main OS HDD.

Ive just replaced my raid0 raptors with the new Samsung F3 1Tb drive with 32mb cache. I believe it is slightly faster.

Sounds good.

As mentioned before, if you want high performance, get an SSD for your INSTALLED programs.

Alternatively, RAID0 mechanical drives. It's cheaper and the performance is similar to an SSD (unless you compare it to an SSD in RAID).

Good luck.

What temps are you getting during gameplay? ATI cards can handle 100C but 80C is "safe".

I also cannot run LFD2 on my rig! OC problem or VGA problem I suppose.
