Windows 7: My Comp doesn't always stay asleep...

My sleep button in my start bar is set to send the comp into hibernation. but sometimes I click it and my comp goes to sleep but then 15 - 20 mins later it wakes it's self up again. I tried switching the power of my cordless mouse off incase it was getting shaken by vibrations or something and causing the comp to wake up but this doesn't seem to be the problem. Does anybody have any Idea as to why this might be?

Lets find the cause. In an elevated cmd prompt type this

powercfg -lastwake ... from CMD

Go to start type cmd

Right click on cmd choose run as administrator.

In CMD type what I have given you

thanks for the reply richc46.

I have typed

powercfg -lastwake from CMD

into the cmd window and the response it gave me is

invalid parameters -- try "/?" for help

then I typed

powercfg -lastwake

and it replied

Wake History Count - 0

what do I do now?
also I think the last time it woke up by it's self may have been the time before i last sent it to sleep, not sure though it may have been the last time.

You should check right after you had the problem. Go use and enjoy your computer. When you have the problem again. Follow my instructions. That CMD should not be in the command. That was meant to tell you where to put the command. But I can give you a hint as to where the problem probably originates, it is the NIC. If that is the case very, very easy to fix. Now go and and enjoy.

Another excellent tool is the Event Viewer. Go under the System view and look for events from the Pwr Troubleshooter Service. It posts to the Event Viewer each time your computer sleeps and wakes. That may help you narrow down what wakes your computer.

Thanks everyone for your help, I have now disabled the networks ability to wake my comp, so we'll see if that makes a difference.

I also found event manager, I've never seen that before so that was interesting. however the power troubleshooter didn't give much information. It simply said system has woken up from sleep but what had woken it was unknown...

I have helped many posters with the wake problem. Most times it is the NIC . The changes that you made should be successful. In addition, if you try the powerconfg command that I gave you, right after the next problem, you should have a definitive answer. If you post again, you will surely receive an answer. You have the best source of information backing you, Seven Forums.
