How To Cancel Sleep Mode

When my Windows 7 computer goes into sleep mode, it never seems to "wake up" because of a mouse movement - only a key stroke will do the job. When the monitor goes to sleep (which is usually before the computer) only a mouse movement will wake it up -ESC (which I use for the PC) doesn't wake the monitor.
I don't recall ever having this problem with my XP computer attached to the same mouse and monitor. Have others seen the same thing and is there a way to tell the PC to wake up when the mouse is moved?

Control Panel>device Manager>Mouse and Pointers>Mouse >Right Click your Mouse>Properties>Power Management>Make sure Allow this device to wake computer

If you have an optical mouse, you must click on the side, if you have that feature.

In sleep the light goes out, hence it will not wake.

If you want to wake with the mouse, you need the old roller ball type. Different OS different

results. Hope this helps.

Note: The only reason I know is because, I had a roller type and it worked. Now with an optical mouse, I must press the side.

Thanks

Thanks guys.
1. The mouse property WAS checked to have it cancel sleep mode.
2. I'll check the light next time it goes into sleep mode. I suspect that's the difference between XP and 7 - XP probably didn't turn the light off.

You are better off if the mouse does not wake the computer, with slight movement. Pets, vibrations, etc turn the computer on.
