    Black Viper

Has anyone used Black Viper's suggestions to optimize services under Windows 7. I will image my version of Windows 7 tonight and try using some of Viper's tweaks tomorrow.

Black Viper's Windows 7 Ultimate services ~ Updated: March 17, 2009 is a good place to learn about services that's running on your system, this website is highly Recommend from one of the best in Computer magazines "Maximum PC" check out the Free issues in PDF Format. PC Gamer Recommends this site Too and Leo Laporte yes Leo from The lab or Call for help show that's hosted on g4techtv so give it a try but don't disable services that's need by the OS, under stand each service before disabling. I myself managed to get the OS little under 360MB "Tip" Remember theres also Task Scheduler that start's tasks set in the Scheduler so let the OS rest for like 5Mins or so hope this helps!

Thanks for adding your comments. I have disabled a few services but I'm quite leery of disabling any services which have RPC as a dependency. From what I remember that hosed my Vista installation a year or so ago.

The Black Viper site is indeed worth looking into.

This is also one of the few services that you cannot disable via the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC), nor can you change the state with a registry patch. Previously, if you disabled this service in Windows 2000 Pro SP4-, your computer would become unbootable.

This happen to me "Never Disable Remote Procedure Call (RPC) No Matter What" sorry for not putting this out there.

Remote Procedure Call Locater (RPCL) "Never Disable No Matter What"
DHCP Client "Never Disable No Matter What" if you want Internet Auto setting is the best. Any other service should be ok but check Viper's frist your PC should be ok.

I used the Viper Vista tweaks, but haven't felt compelled to do so with Seven as of yet.
