    Mem Test Question

I have the Windows Diagnostic Memory CD and I ran it a few months ago, nothing came up however. It ran all night and did 7+ sweeps. Then I was wondering recently if the Mem Test only checks up to a certain amount of memory. I have 8 gigs of Ram, so maybe it only checked up to 4? Is it ok if I pull out 2 sticks, (2Gb a piece), and run the test on 4 gigs? Thanks.

If you are not sure about the Windows Memory Diagnostic, try using Memtest86 instead.

Windows Memory Diagnostic is just as good as MemTest - though I would suggest the newer Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool instead of MemTest. Or use Windows 7 internal Memory Diagnostic Tool:

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Windows Memory Diagnostic

Is it ok if I pull out 2 sticks, (2Gb a piece), and run the test on 4 gigs? Thanks.
Actually, no test is perfect so pulling out 2 sticks then using your computer normally is probably the best test. If no problem, swap in the other pair. Just remember to unplug the computer from the wall before starting, and touch bare metal of the case to discharge any static before reaching in.

I would recommend the Memtest86+ since, when you have downloaded and burnt the image to a CD, you can boot your system up with the CD and it will automatically run.
