PC takes a longer time than normal to resume from sleep

Just recently, my PC is taking a lot longer to completely resume from sleep - only first time after overnight though.
What happens is that the login screen comes up immediately on mouse move, then the 'Welcome' screen just sits there for about 30 seconds with no HD activity. Then the HD starts up and the desktop comes up very quickly.
Any subsequent resumes from sleep in that day are fine and immediate.
Happens every day - didn't used to!
