| Windows 7: PC Wakes from sleep, but only partially |

PC Wakes from sleep, but only partially The last 3 days or so my PC has woke up from sleep mode, or standby mode about 2-3 times each night. And the weird part about it. Is the PC wakes up. It turns on and my lights and fans and water-cooling kick into gear. The Monitor Turns on, or wakes up as well. But the odd part is the Monitor lights up, but stays this not grey, but not white color. Like backlight only.. No sign in screen, no background. Nothing. And once I move my mouse, or hit a key. It fully wakes up and I'm able to type in my password and log-in.
Very odd, I've build MANY a computers. and none have ever PARTIALLY woke from sleep mode, but not all the way. It's very bizarre and I'm pretty confused atm. It's been on the last 3 days in a row when I get off work also, witch makes me think it's been running all day when I get home.. Now thats ok, I'd just like to figure out what the hell it's doing, and why only partially waking up.
Suggestions?
Thanks! | My System Specs |

Here is a selection from out excellent collection of tutorials. I think that you may find the answer, in the section on computer wakes unexpectedly. Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums
I am thiking in terms, stop it from waking fully or partially, I think would require the same solution.
The Vista solution should be the same as the 7 solution. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

Install all your drivers, starting with chipset and then update the motherboard's BIOS. Out of interest, is nothing tapping the keyboard or mouse while you sleep? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio Z46GDU OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86-64 CPU P9700@2.8GHz 1066MHz FSB Motherboard Sony branded Memory 6GB DDR3 1066MHz Graphics Card 9300M GS 256MB Dedicated (Speed) + Intel4500MHD (Stamina) Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays 13.1' WXGA Screen Resolution 1600x900 Hard Drives 320GB 7200RPM w/ 16MB cache Internet Speed 1MB/s |

No the keyboard and mice both side out of sight..
The drivers I could maybe try reinstalling the Nvidia drivers, but updating my Bios and all that is a little much for now. It's not like it's always done this. it just started. Mobo BIOs updates I try not to do unless completely needed.. but I'll try the above tutorials.. thanks | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64 CPU Q9650 E0 @ 4.0 GHz 1.304v Motherboard eVGA 750i FTW! At the forum, you are among friends. I think it wise to start with the easier solutions. In the event that you want to venture into a solution that is a little more challenging all your friends at the forum are ready to help.. If its a wireless keyboard/mouse make sure nothing is leaning on it. Everything should be up to date on your PC, including any monitor or dvd firmware and especially the BIOS for your motherboard. There could be additional features or support you are missing out on. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio Z46GDU OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86-64 CPU P9700@2.8GHz 1066MHz FSB Motherboard Sony branded Memory 6GB DDR3 1066MHz Graphics Card 9300M GS 256MB Dedicated (Speed) + Intel4500MHD (Stamina) Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays 13.1' WXGA Screen Resolution 1600x900 Hard Drives 320GB 7200RPM w/ 16MB cache Internet Speed 1MB/s |

If it is any consolation, I have been experiencing pretty much the same issue. On rare occasion the entire computer will wake up completely in the middle of the night--lights all ablaze.
I figure it is one of 3 things:
1. some random radio interference affecting my wireless mice (I have 2 of them).
2. a Ghost watching over me, who has gotten bored and wants to do some mischief.
3. one of the programs is "kicking on" and partially activating. (Antivirus updating, adobe trying to update (even though I thought I had turned this irritating pgm off), scheduled defrag, etc)
The computer pretty much goes back into dark screen in a couple of minutes so I was never bothered enough to try to figure this out.
Maybe I should take the time and look into it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built and Maintained...by Me OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Phenome x4 965 Black Ed (Lovingly OverClocked.a tad) Motherboard Gigabyte GA 890GPA-UD3H Memory 6 Gb (3 x 2 Gb GSKILL 16000CL9 ) Graphics Card ASUS EAH5850/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5850 1GB Sound Card Creative SB X-Fi Monitor(s) Displays Dual 24" Samsung Wide-Sceens Screen Resolution Good Enough. No mine wakes up.. all lights and fans a blazing.. BUT THE MONITOR. it turns on. and lights up my entire room being an IPS Panel 24" but it doesn't fully turn on. so the LCD is activated, and brightens up. but never goes to the sign in, or login screen or anything. it stays Grey.. lol. very odd.
Thanks Rich and Frost.. Yea my Bios is a little old and 7 wasn't out back then, but then again it's worked fine with this bios since the first builds of 7 so I can't see it starting now. thats my only thought on that. but I'll try updating a few drivers and things of that sort.
