New hard drive and sleep problem

I recently replaced my hard disk - upgraded from SATA 1.0 to SATA 2.0. I'm getting great performance, but unfortunately now the PC won't sleep or hibernate. I checked all the settings in the Power Options and nothing has changed. I already have wake timers disabled. I can live without this functionality, but your thoughts are appreciated

Have you tried updating your chipset/SATA controller drivers?

Also make sure that the hard drive is set to turn off before the computer sleeps.

    .
I've made a little progress. I turned off hibernation and "sleep" started to work properly. I turned Hibernation back on and the problem returned. For the moment I've left it off while I check for BIOS/Driver updates.

Great, now we have something to go on.

Have you read Shawn's excellent tutorial on sleep problems in the Vista forums? Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums

    Still applicable to 7.
