    All Icons Are Missing

    Hello guys,

the thumbnails of icons were loading very slowly in my high end computer so I've deleted IconCache.db file for rebuilding the cache.
But now when I've rebooted the system, my windows 7 operating system literally became iconless.
The iconcache.db file is missing. (I thought it will be created automatically after deleting it.)

I've tried rebooting the system many times but still no use.

There are no spywares, viruses in my system.

    One more thing.
The windows START button is also not working now.
When I click on it, the start menu doesnt pop up.
I've tried pressing the keyboard button, Ctrl+Esc but nothing happening.

    Please tell me the solution.

Easiest solution would be to try a system restore. If that fails to fix the problem, I would try a repair install with your Windows disc to solve the start menu icon. Are you able to create new icons for your programs manually?

Before you go deleting stuff you're unsure of, make a system restore point to avoid situations like this.

No, if I right click and select to create a new folder, then also the newly created folder is iconless.

I was very much sure that if I delete IconCache file, it will created automatically by operating system at the next boot.

If you do the repair install, there is a very good chance that you will be up and running again. Run it several times.

Give this easy solution a try, as already suggested. It will not affect any personal documents.

    Repair Install

If you want you can try this, first. Type cmd in start, do not hit enter. Right click on CMD and then run as administrator. In cmd type sfc /scannow. Run that several times if errors are found. We will get you up and running, again.

You did nothing wrong, that is what system restore is for. You, now know for sure that the system is exactly the way it was before the problem. Be sure to keep your restore points up to date, so that you can recover, in the future, if you have problems.

    Best of luck.
