Windows explorer changing/taking focus +more

Hello everybody!

I have several issues and annoyances with Windows Explorer. It keeps taking focus switching windows from time to time: let's say I have opened WE and then open another window like after double-clicking on an archive file. After a moment Explorer takes over and gets in front of the other window. Very annoying.

Another issue is when I'm browsing in WE and I have the folder list with the current folder topmost in the left pane and showing all sub-folders, suddenly it drops down and only the 2-3 sub-folders

Also I would want to have the old XP behavior back, that it instantly shows the sub-folders when the focus is on the parent folder.

Is there a way to get rid of these annoyances?

/DM

Hello DM,

Do you use a touchpad? If so, then it may be the sensitivity ot tapping settings that may need adjusting for in the Mouse section in the Control Panel for the touchpad driver settings. It may be to sensitive and allow a click on something to lose focus on what you were working on.

In the navigation pane, you might see if this may be what you are wanting.

Navigation Pane - Automatically expand to current folder

and

Navigation Pane - Show All Folders

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Shawn

I do use a TP but this happens even when I'm on external mouse and no touching of the pad.

I'll check the links and return with an update regarding them.

EDIT: It solved the third issue partially. In XP when you move throug the folders on the left pane with the keyboard, the right pane followed and you could see the folder's content. This is the behavior I'm after.

Thanks so far.

I'm not sure what else may help with the focus issue, but you can turn on the Preview Pane for this instead in Windows 7. However, it is turned on or off in all Windows Explorer windows and not just certain ones.

Ok Shawn.

Seems that the issue discussed is a "feature" of the new windows environment.

The other problems taking over focus from other windows and the others would be nice to get rid of, It's quite annoying when you're eg writing a letter it suddenly jumps to WE and your typing makes things happen in the file structure...

Can I scroll pane hovering over in Windows Explorer without focus?
Yes, so navigating long lists of files and folders, we can scroll up and down which ever pane has focus. But it annoys the sh!t out of me when you need to scroll the navigation pane too. Surely it can be configured to scroll whatever the mouse is hovering over rather than having to be in focus as...

The focus in Windows Explorer
I have a problem and I will try to explain this very simple; I'm in a folder and I open a folder which is focussed somehwere in the middle of my screen (selected view = details); I go back, one level up; The folder I'm coming from is now focussed in the bottom of my screen, the last one. ...

Disable Auto-Focus in Windows Explorer
Not sure if "focus" is the right term here, but anyway. I use "list" view almost exclusively so this may not be an issue with other views. But one of my beefs with W7 is: if you're viewing a folder that has multiple rows of files or sub folders; then you click on of the the folders that's more to...

Notebook slow - changing focus, opening new windows...
Hi there, I did a clean boot(disabling startup items) a while ago and after reverting back to normal boot, my computer became pretty slow in doing certain things. I don't know if this has anything to do with my clean boot or if it was just coincidence that it happened then. Anyway, booting seems...

Focus is not on folders/files when explorer window opens
Hi, In XP, if I opened up a folder, I could start typing and the folders/files list view would jump down according to the letters I typed in. In Windows 7, this does not happen - the focus remains in the left panel (i.e. Favourites, Libraries, Homegroup etc). Does anyone know if there is a...

Problem with Print dialog box (changing focus)
When I am about to print a document, I click on the "Print" icon and the Print dialog box appears. When I want to select the duplexing option to print double-sided, I click the "Properties" button from within the "Print" dialog box. I have been doing this for a long time without any problem, but...
