    System memory

I keep getting a message that the system memory is low and eventually the system shuts down. How can I increase the system memory?

Install more RAM. They are physical components that you put into the machine.

    Hello Paul,

Double check to make sure that you have virtual page memory turn on and set to be managed by the system. If this is turned off, or manually set low instead of system managed, then you can get a "low memory" warning from it.

    Hope this helps,

If you want to upgrade your memory, we need your system specs. Use HWInfo32 in the drivers guide in my sig.

I have a DELL Studio XPS 1640, Processor Intel Core Duo CPU T9600 @2.80Ghz, installed RAM 6Gb, 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

I had to install a virtual PC to run some software that was not compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. This may have caused unusual use of memory.

Further to my previous message, Setup indicates 628Kb of system memory and 6141 Mb of extended memory.

How much memory did you give the VM?

Post a picture of the memory tab of your Process Monitor (the bar with all the colors). Then we can see what's going on. But it must be from the time when you get the message.
