It depends on how you backed them up... if you did a manual back up ( copy & paste ) then the answer is no... If you used a 3rd party program like Acronis True Image Home, then you should be able to do an differential backup without any problems...

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply mate, i just used the copy paste method but would like to understand how the other way would work. I understand an image is just a backup of whatever it is you decide to backup but i dont really want an image of my backed up music and files just an automatic update of the files when i connect the external hd to my computer if you see wat i mean.

thanks again

yes, Acronis will do what you want ... its called a differential backup... only backs up files that have changed since your last backup... You may have to start the process manually but that shouldnt be a problem.... Good Luck ...

Thanks so much mate is there a free version of acronis around? I did find another program called d sync which lets you sync 2 folders at a time to automatically update seems quite good to. Dont think the macrum free image program i have installed will do wat acronis can will it?

I use Paragon. They do free versions
Both the backup s/w and the partition manager.
You can search it or use this link;

For something like this, I don't think you necessarily want a backup application.....rather you want a sync type application to make a duplicate copy to your external drive.

I use robocopy at the command line
robocopy C:\musicfolder E:\musicfolder /MIR

The /MIR switch tells it to mirror the source and the destination. So, if I delete files from C:\musicfolder...it removes it from E:\musicfolder when I run it.

Robocopy just does files that have changed since the last run, so it's very fast.

The other tool you might want to try is Sync Toy. This is a GUI based Microsoft freebie that does the same thing as described above....just not from the command line.
