Drive shows capacity of old drive after restoring bckup

Hey guys I used the builtin backup and restore to make an image of my 160GB hard drive because I wanted to install a 250GB HD. The image worked great and I put the new 250GB drive in. The issue is that I do not see the rest of my drive space. The drive shows the capacity of the old drive (160GB) instead of the 250GB that it should now be.

Hello Zay,

What does it show in your Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) screen? Could you post a screenshot of it?

Thanks Brinks, I attached a screenshot for you. I found the space when I looked under disk management. It seems the drive was partitioned with the restoration, can I get that back as one partition?

LOL, oops. Yeah, you should be able to extend C: into the unallocated space to have it all back on C: again without any problems.

Well I did some searching around, and found this tool called partition master by esus. I went ahead and resized the partition which got rid of the unallocated partition, and gave me back my whole drive. Has anyone done something like this and their system still running great?

Oh yeah, it's no problem at all. It's normal. When you restored the image backup, it just restored the hard drive to how it was when the image was created. Since the new drive was larger than the old drive, and how it was on the image backup, it just left the extra space as unallocated.
