error 0x8007045D

i have been trying to back up my toshiba satellite onto a WD terabyte usb drive and all i get this this error. I have even started copying just certain files to make sure that I have the most needed files and I have even gotten this error. It was suggested that I make sure that the usb drive was formatted to NTFS and not FAT32. It is NTFS. now i'm just lost. my laptop, when powered on, just hangs and won't do anything but just sit there until I hit the power down button. it shuts down, and i hit the button again and it powers up and then continues to load the os. at one point during a backup session, i got the blue screen o' death.

I have a Toshiba Satellite - that's less than a year old. It came with Vista but I upgraded to 7 hoping for more speed and the ability to use all of the installed 4 gigs of ram.

SORRY IggyAZ!!!!! I owe a public apology to IggyAZ. It was a late night Iggy after fooling with this error for almost 10 hours yesterday. I'm terribly sorry. Peace.
