    What exactly does raid do?

    Hi there,

I have a question about what does RAID do? I heard there are many versions but are there any benefits to having RAID compared to just one hard drive running partitions? Im just wondering because I look to build a computer in the coming months (summer).

    edit:
I messed up the title great lol

RAID serves two purposes: for those reckless speed demons, drag-racing on the wrong side of the highway at half-again the posted speed, there's RAID 0; and, for those stodgy ol' blokes who wear both a belt and suspenders ("braces" for you Brits), there are RAID(s) 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 (and a few others less well known).
