7 ultimate taking forever to sleep

I have a couple problems that have been happening only in windows 7. Both of these problems do not happen if i load vista on another partition and try these in vista.

    1. When i hit the sleep button in 7 i will take anywhere from 30seconds to 5 minutes for the computer to finally sleep. In vista this takes only a few seconds.

2.Periodically my internet browser will no longer go to web pages, this happens in internet explorer, chrome, and firefox. When i exit from the browser the entire computer acts as if it is computing in slow motion and any task takes forever.

I have zonealarm firewall and antivirus loaded but this still happens if the program has not been installed on the system yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forums rcflier!

Lets get some preliminaries out of the way...
    • What version of Win7?
    • Where did you acquire this copy of Windows 7?
    • Was it an Upgrade or Clean Install?
    • What browser and version?
    • What antivirus/version?
    • Are you also running Windows firewall?

Regarding the sleep problem is most likely due to a conflict with a slow ending process. Try the clean boot to eliminate the cause.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

just tried the clean boot and it still takes a long time to sleep. What is the normal time for the computer to sleep once the button has been pressed?

Hello RCFlier, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That amount of time sounds like you may have hibernate and/or hybrid enabled. As a test, make sure that hibernate is disabled and that you have the recommended settings for sleep in your Power Plan settings to see if you still get the same delay when putting the computer to sleep.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

All of the sleep settings are correct.

Now there is a new problem. Once it finally goes to sleep, sometimes when i come back it have shit down, and then i restart it i will get the message that windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

Does Forcing reduce the shutdown time?
