Disable "Windows has detected slow performance" nagging

Is there some way to stop Windows telling me that the performance is slow?

I get this message: "Windows has detected that your computer's performance is slow", with the option to change to basic theme, or keep the existing. But even when i select to keep it, it still keeps nagging me.

What's even more frustrating, is that the computer runs perfectly fine.

    This happens in two cases:

    1. I view video in VLC on my secondary monitor (uses 3% CPU, 3GB RAM free...)
    2. I run a virtual PC via VMWare (uses 2GB RAM and some CPU, but PC still runs perfectly).

There must be some way to disable this nagging? It's obviously not working like intended (since performance is not slow at all).

You might want to go to Start-Run-Msconfig (type in if needed), then Startup. Go down the list of programs that start up upon boot. Many of those programs on the list can be unchecked. Obvious ones include programs related to Real Player, QuickTime, DVD burner programs,Nvidia,ATI, etc. Uncheck those and reboot.

Also, as a test, disconnect all periphials except your mouse and keyboard and see if the notification occurs.
And as always, run a malware program. Update video drivers.

As mentioned, performance is NOT a problem - i just want to have windows stop trying to check this.

There must be a way to do this? In gpedit.msc for instance?

This may not be of any help, but some guy had same problem. He had set his preferences to rotate his wallpaper every 5 minutes. Try messing around with your desktop theme/look/whatever. I know this is grasping at straws, but there's only a few posts out on the net about this problem and I've found noone has a one fix answer yet.

I don't think there's a way to disable the pop up. Sometimes it is caused by faulty video drivers, a few people have reported it being caused by rotating wall papers as well.

I recommend you update your graphics drivers to the latest stable version and turn off any rotating wallpaper.
Once you've done that, refresh your WEI score.

BTW, Please fill in your system specs.

    Hi Geezuz,

Turn off your Aero theme. Some games and apps require huge memory and resources, which is not possible with Aero running. You can do either of the following:

    1) Switch to a non-aero theme.

    2) If you think option 1 above is terrible, then the alternative is Right click on your application exe file, then click on properties, click on Compatibility, then check (tick) the "Disable Desktop Composition" option. Now, everytime you start the particular app, windows will disable aero and hopefully your performance nags will disappear. When you close the app, aero will be restored.

    Thanks for your replies!

Specs are: Core i7 920, 6GB RAM, Intel SSD, Radeon HD 4850 1GB - which should be enough in any case. And as mentioned, perfomance is still excellent even when Windows says it's not (I don't notice any slowdowns at all).
    I don't have rotating backgrounds.

After nagging me a about 5-10 times, it will change to Basic theme automatically.

I'll try to update the graphics driver, but I have my doubts. I'm using the classic theme now and it feels a bit snappier and does not waste so much space in taskbars etc (unlike Basic theme), so I might just continue using it, despite the old look :P

So there's really no way to turn off this? I just opened a remote desktop connection to a win 7 computer, and windows changed to basic theme, and didn't change back again when i quit remote desktop. It's ridiculus, cause performance is NOT affacted at all.

I have the same problem when I run VLC in full screen on my second or third monitor in full screen. Eventually it disables aero theme but I'm running a system that doesn't have a problem handling the videos.
