Windows 7 experience score help

Hi all i have just ran the windows experience index on my machine and i am kinda confused with the results.

My base score came out at 5.9 this was the breakdown
Processor 7.4
Ram 7.6
Graphics 7.7
Gaming graphics 7.7
Hard drive 5.9

I really cant understand why my hd got such a low mark, its 500gb and its partioned into 4 segments, this is the hd i have

It does state that it can hold data up to 1TB to but it actually only allows 500gb, any ideas to why it would get such a low score?

This is a normal score for a spinning disk. For anything better you need either a Raid setup with 15.000RPM spinning disks or an SSD. It is the access time and the data transfer rate that determines the rating, not the capacity. Here is a performance comparison of a spinning disk and an SSD. Watch especially the difference in access time.

I would not stare at those ratings (usually referred to as "WEI"). If you are happy with your system performance, it means nothing. Nevertheless, if you have some $100 lying around, buy a 30GB SSD and put Windows7 on that. You will be amazed by the performance gain. Would be probably the best $100 you ever invested into your box. And 30GBs are ample for the system (17GB in my case after 6 months of running). Just put the user data on the HDD and get rid of the Hibernation file. That's all I have done.
