Long "Welcome" screen at boot
I'm new to posting on these boards but I've been leeching for a while now. Anyway, i know this is a popular question so i'm going to go ahead an apologize in advance... sorry.
now, my welcome screen hangs waaayyy too long (>20 sec). when i installed 7 the first time about 6 months ago it would go from the log-in screen to desktop almost immediately. then after about 4 months and a few suspicious software installations i decided to format and reinstall 7 again. worked great until about a month ago when the welcome screen began to hang. two fresh installs later it still does it.
i've tried every thing i've found on this problem, from changing my wallpaper to voodoo and chicken bones without success. i have drastically increased the start up and shut down times but the welcome screen i can not fix.
some things ive tried:
registry defrag,
regcleaner,
ccleaner,
defraggler,
updating drivers,
removing startup programs,
disabling services,
modifying task scheduler,
changing timeouts,
setting # of processors,
setting max memory,
modifying registry entries...
the list goes on and on.
I have norton 360 v4 and i disabled automatic tasks like live update but i dont know if it does a scan at system startup. it is not in my startup programs list and it still starts... but on the other hand ive have had norton 360 for a couple years so i doubt it is that.
any ideas on what could be going on during that awful welcome screen? thanks for the help.
