Hybrid sleep?

hi can anyone explain the hybrid sleep option in windows 7 please?

The function of the Sleep and Resume feature in Windows 7:

In addition to the new and different features that come with Windows 7, Microsoft has improved the sleep function of the operating system. Windows 7 reconnects to the wireless network when you resume from standby mode. On resuming, the PC will be ready to use within a few seconds. Some of the salient features of Sleep and Resume in Windows 7 are as follows:
Sleep, Hibernation, and Hybrid

Set-up on your computer

The different modes in Windows 7 are Sleep, which is a power saving mode. It allows the computer to suspend operations and basically pause itself. Sleep mode will put your settings and work in memory and draws only a small amount of power. It will resume operations as soon as you wake it. Hibernation is a different form of power saving that is used mostly on laptops. Unlike sleep, the hibernation mode will save your settings and work to the hard drive and turn itself off. Hibernation is best used when you know that you won’t be using your laptop for awhile and won’t be able to charge it. This is the mode that uses the least amount of power. Hybrid sleep is used mostly for desktop computers. It is a combination of sleep and hibernation modes hence the name hybrid. It puts any open documents and settings to memory and on your hard drive. It also puts your computer into low power so that you can wake it up. This is done in the event of a power outage or surge. This way Windows can resume operations straight from the hard disk.

Great question. My personal idea is that it saves things that may be in memory into your hybernation cache file in your root directory for safe keeping if you forgot to save and your computer is setup to shutdown after a period of time.

I personally shut it down on my computer because it slowed my startup as well as my shutdown as well as my sleep more.
I don't leave stuff in memory to get lost so I don't think I need it.

Command to stop hybernation is an open command prompt as Administrator
powercfg -h off

To turn it back on
powercfg -h on

thanks bill:) i dont drink! but i get your idea so with my ups i have it set up to hibernate on power fail, when i go out for a while(shopping) i put my machine in sleep mode.

When hybrid sleep is enabled, the Hibernate button will disappear from the start menu, but it is still enabled.

If you want to have the hibernate button in the start menu, you have to set hibernate to be the default in the start menu. Then enable hybrid sleep, and as long as you don't change the default button in the start menu, it will remain Hibernate.
