    Not using all ram


    Hi, im a newbie on here but ive been racking my brain trying to find a reason why my system is only using 2.5 GB of my 8.0 GB available memory. Any help at all would be appreciated. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place or already been answered.

    It might be a setting in BIOS. type msconfig in search and check the settings for max ram, and max cpu.

    Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit O/S? 32-bit will only recognize a maximum of 3.5 GB's of RAM.

    From where do you get the 2.5GB number. Is that all the system can use (like e.g. shown in Computer > Properties) or is this what the system is currently using (like shown in Task Manager > Performance tab). If you go to the Resource Manager > Memory tab, you will see the real story in the colored bar. E.g. like this:
