Windows 7: Disk Management hangs at "Loading disk configuration information"

Disk Management hangs at "Loading disk configuration information"

When trying to view my disks in Computer Management>Disk Management, I get "Connecting to Virtual Disk Service" for several minutes, then "Loading disk configuration information" nearly forever. After about 20 minutes, some information appears, but I can't scroll the window to see all the data.

Also - I'm now having trouble creating and re-naming new folders in Win Explorer. It "feels" like it's related. Has something else got control of my drives? Any suggestions welcome.

Same issue except no problem with renaming folders.

Following services are running:

Virtual Disk set to Manual
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Plug and Play

Logged in as administrator account. Drives check out OK with manufacturers diagnostic tools.

Running MMC and adding the Snap-in for Disk Management(Local) does not fix the issue. I'm guessing there's a problematic registry setting for a drive that use to exist or is now having an issue. Anyone have any other suggestions?
