Which would be why I said *if*.

I did not say it *would cool it down, but you *did* say it would heat it up - but if the fans were running it would *not*.

My model is a LG R500.
I don't think it's my fan. I have 3 settings for it. Cool mode, normal mode, and silent mode. Silent mode doesn't turn it off, just makes the fan slower. And it's never been a problem before.
I think the problem started when I dual booted with Ubuntu.

Also, my battery settings are all default, which they were before when I didn't have this problem.

I am trying speedfan right now though.

    Same problem

Guys, I have the EXACT same problem.
I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate x86 for more than a year on my laptop (HP DV5-1153ei), and very recently (2 days ago) this problem happened for the first time. The laptop powered-off when it reached 50% charge, and as I attempt to start it up again, it barely powers on (I see the POST message(s)) then it powers-down again, as if the battery is fully drained. It worked fine when I plugged it in, and the charge reads 50% and increases normally as long as it's plugged in.

I was wondering if someone managed to find a fix for this?

    Cheers

    Bams hi and welcome

The chances of anyone re-visiting a thread that is 18 months old are pretty slim. You probably will get more response if you start your own.

    Just an FYI

I have one. Buy a new battery. Thats all there is to it. Your battery is reaching the end of its life. The amount of power it can hold is nil and the level of information it provides is now defunct. No amount of software is going to fix that.

OK, it's a good thing I was sort of expecting this. A new battery is probably the only fix.
I'll just keep the current one and effectively turn the lappy into a PC :P, it's not worth investing in an expensive new battery for this relatively old laptop.

    Thanks for your replies guys.
