Sleep option is greyed out! Cannot hibernate too!

My sleep option in windows 7 ultimate is greyed out!!
Also, I have my graphics driver installed etc so please dont comment on that.

I get the follow error when I try to type "powercfg -Hibernate ON" in CMD and I don't know how to resolve it! Please help me , I need back sleep and hibernate!! (The sleep option is still greyed out after installing windows 7fresh install)

    The error message : -

"The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
There are one or more legacy driver installed:
    GenPort2 "

Please find me a quick solution.

Quick solution is to un-install the printer software that is using "genport2" as indicated int the error message. What printer drivers have been installed?????

    Thanks for the reply,

But there are no printer drivers installed nor any printer software on my laptop. I don't have a printer at the moment. and there are NO history of installing a printer driver as far as I can remember.

In my printers list in control panel , the only thing I can see is this " Microsoft XPS document writer " which is probably a virtual printer installed by windows 7 by default.

My device manager also shows nothing about printers installed.

Welcome to the forums PowerInside. Try this, navigate to:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder, and see if you have listings for genport or genport.sys, or similar. If so delete them, and that should fix this. These are legacy drivers for older devices. A Guy

    .
You may be correct that these drivers are unnecessary, but I suggest the OP rename them first and confirm that there are no undesirable effects - BSTS (better safe then sorry).

Thanks, I took the risks and deleted two files genport.sys and genport2.sys which I found in that location. After restart , everything is working and the sleep has become functional. But im not sure what caused this and why legacy drivers were installed and what it is and why it is hindering a simple operation such as sleep?

    Hey guys

Ive looked in my drivers folder for genport but can not find any with those names.
I recently installed (then soon uninstalled) the CNET driver tracker, which seems to have messed up my drivers.
Im having the same problem as the OP (as well as a few other driver related problems).

Im hoping that if i can fix this issue i will be able to fix the other issues that the CNET tracker created.

    Thanks in advance
