Nah. You can set what temperatures SpeedFan gives you the flame icon. Anything below 70 C really isn't an issue. If under 100% load [which with 4 cores you have only a few things you can do] you break the 70C mark,it wouldn't hurt to look into a new or better heatsink. 53C is only 127F.

Looking at those temps, yes, I would be worried a little bit. You're running at 4% load and your temps are that high?

Here is my Phenom II 955 @ 3800 idling:

WEI007.jpg

Right now, my two Radeon 4670's are sitting at 31C and 34C. My CPU core temp doesn't break 55C under full load.

You might have an airflow problem in your case, and it looks like your CPU fan is only running at 1100 RPM. I would increase the CPU fan speed. Also, check the Advanced tab under the config in Speedfan, and make sure that SF hasn't applied any offsets to your temps. IMHO, all of those temps look off for an Intel system. They usually run cooler than an AMD rig does at the same speeds.

Speedfan is a good tool, but it doesn't hurt to double check with something like CPUID's Hardware Monitor or Coretemp. Both are linked in the Software forum, under Brink's Free software sticky.

Is it possible to increase the fan speed with speedfan? (by the sound of the name it should be possible lol but I cant figure out where)

Thanks man!

Temperatures are dependent on a host of variables. In short, just because someone shows temps in the mid 30's while you show temps in the mid 50's just says there’s more to the story.

You need to take the following into consideration before comparing temps of one CPU to that of another…. room temps, case/case design, location of case, case fans, design of fans, number of fans, CPU lot, voltages, motherboard, CPU cooler (water vs. air), thermo paste, programs running, etc ...

As you can see, there's a lot to consider when looking at temps. So when one says they're running at 35c while you might be running at 50 only shows the end result of the variable above. Only when those are the same can you really compare temps.

So... before you go chasing after someone else’s numbers understand what it took to get there.

My two cents.

Idiots Guide to setting fan settings in Speedfan (not calling you an idiot ;) just saying its idiot proof)

1) click Configure then Advanced
2) select your chip from the drop down menu (you will know its the right one, it will say PWM Mode somewhere in the list below)
3) Change PWM Mode from "Smart Gaurdian" to "Software Controlled"
4) click OK

assuming your Mobo supports it, you can now change the fan speeds from Speedfan

Very good advice, and I completely agree.

I'd just like to point out that I wasn't trying a "hey look at me" game on the OP. I was only trying to illustrate that his temps were quite high at idle IMO, and I used that screen shot to back it up. Since my machine is running at 600 MHz over stock, with a Vcore of 1.34, and no special cooling tricks, I thought that the comparison was valid in showing what a case with good airflow can do for you. I neglected to make that point and add some of the information that you mentioned, and I'm sorry if it caused any confusion.

For the details, my case has 4 120mm fans, 3 intake and one rear exhaust, plus a 140mm top exhaust fan. When the screen shot was taken, the ambient temp was 24C, and all but the CPU fan was running at 70%. The CPU fan always runs at 100%. I don't have a really sexy CPU HS either, It's just air cooled, and I use good thermal paste.

@OP: sygnus21 is correct. Don't use my numbers as numbers to chase. Rather, use them and other people's numbers as examples. Compare a number of systems, and how they are cooled, to see where your temps could be. If you'd like some more information on how I got my temps, please PM.

Hello Mellon Head,

I only have like 2 fans in it lol :) Stock

Anyway, I am now using Rivatuner to increase the fan speed of my GPU and ive also put speedfan on automatic.
I've just been gaming and its now sitting around 48 degrees.

Apart from that outside it is pretty hot so that also adds up to it I guess.
----

Also I am kinda worried lol , the steps previously posted for speedfan are supposed to be idiot-proof but I can't seem to increase my fan speed manually

Will my fans survive if I just keep them at 100%?

Regards,
Mark

I'd just like to point out that I wasn't trying a "hey look at me" game on the OP.

The point of my post/reply was simply to say that there are a lot fo factors in determining what meaningful temps are. The fact that I used yours and the OP's numbers was simply to show contrast and had nothing to do with slighting either person.

I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.

All is good

I run AMD and in my system specs i do not exceed any abnormal heat issues plus when i was running intel i couldnt even shut my pc case it would shut down constantly and i have the same case now moded with amd mb and all ati radeon equipment

I just dont think intel is even in the same league as amd anymore there cheaper and more efficiant untill you actually use amd type system i wouldnt say it runs hotter cause i had the reverse experiece with the intel in the same case i just couldnt close it both sides had to be open just for it to stay on now both sides close and it doesnt remotly get anywhere near 35 c on full load and gpu stays around 50 on full load idle 45

my suggestions is add more fans check how you install them you want to have atleast one pushing in and one pushing out and a after market heatsink it could be airflow as early stated the more fans and better fan speed would help keep it better cooled the rmps are pretty low they should be atleast 2000 at minimum you might need to manual adjust it yourself just a suggestion

@markvis14 you are making a mistake keeping only 2 fans at 100% just spend the money and get a couple more fans and atleast bring them down by 40 % your going to end up frying your mb and cpu for over stressing the only fans you have

Whether you have AMD or Intel, proper cooling is proper cooling. The fact that you say you couldn't close your case doors without over heating suggests that you had improper cooling.

Sorry.

wasnt improper cooling i basicly have the same set up even when i used the amd stock heatsink it never went above 40 and this system was professionaly built so what else can you chalk it up to

if a major company had put this machine together for me from the get go they should be the ones responsable for cooling it properly but none the less AMD works alot better for me then intel and i achieved building my own system with out dealing with pricy places

can't blame me for doing it myself when i had professional build the last one and it gave me more problems then my ex and child support hahaha

Regardless of who put the system together, improper cooling is improper cooling. And yes.... even the "pros" make mistakes. Like forgetting to properly seat the CPU cooler, or…. CPU loosens during shipping.

At any rate I’ve never had a system that got so hot that I couldn’t close the side doors. Not one; and all my systems have been Intel.

Again, If you can’t close the PC case doors, that’s cooling not an "Intel chips get so hot you can’t close side doors" problem.

Sorry.
