What happened to pinning folders to Explorer in 7100?

I have one machine with build 7068, in which I can drag a folder down onto the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar and have that folder pinned to Windows Explorer. If I right click on Explorer, there is a list of frequent folders and pinned folders.

Now, in the RC build 7100, I can no longer pin folders to Explorer. Even more, there is no list of frequent folders nor pinned folders!

What happened to this feature?

I have the list and I run 7100. You probably have a problem with your installation.

That is really odd. So, you can drag a folder from within any open Explorer window down onto the taskbar or the Windows Explorer icon there on the taskbar and have it be pinned to 'Explorer'? When I attempt to do this in 7100, a 'forbidden' icon appears (red circle with slash though it).

Perhaps it may be something I messed with in the settings? I can't imagine what it may be though....

Thanks for replies.

Hey, I just noticed that I can pin folders and frequents work as expected when logged onto my admin account. But, they don't in my user account.

Can someone verify this behavior in their user account before I go through the trouble of reinstalling?

Is there a setting that I may have inadvertently turned off?

How can it be a bug if there's a setting for it?

[x] Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar

OK, first off, it's only the *first* of those two options that MUST be checked in order to pin stuff to Explorer. The second one has no bearing on whether I'm able to do that. Secondly, "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu" is a *Start Menu* setting and should have no bearing on whether I'm able to pin stuff to an icon on the taskbar. If it's not a bug, then surely, it's very unexpected behavior, and a reworking of these options definitely in order.

EDIT: If I then go to uncheck the first of those two options in the privacy section, the pinned items to Explorer persist. Yep, definitely a bug.

Good god. Found the answer. It must be bug. Found it here:

Pinning folder links to Jump Lists in Win7 - Topic Powered by Eve For Enterprise

In short, you MUST have "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu" checked in the Start Menu properties privacy section. Well, that certainly saved me a lot of time...
Glad you found the answer. I noticed that a build or two ago.

It makes sense that you don't see recent programs show automatically unless that's checked.

It doesn't make sense that you can't pin things yourself unless that's checked.
