No search available in 'moved' User folders - Bug?

If this is a bug, it's a pretty big one. Perhaps I have a setting that's been switched away from its default setting. But, I have partitioned data drive to which I've "relocated" or moved several of my user folders (music, video, documents folders, etc.) using the Location tab in the folder's properties. I have done this in Vista previously and in a previous build of Windows 7.

Here's the odd part. I cannot perform any searches in those folders at their new location at the root of my data partition, i.e. no search results appear for *any* searches! However, for those folders at the root of the data partition that did *not* originate from the User folder, searches work just fine.

Now, what in the world would cause this odd behavior??

OK, thanks. I was about to add that I solved the problem. By default, Windows 7 indexes pretty much all of the folders found originally in the User's folder - and when they've been moved to the root of a partitioned drive, as in my case.

Now, because these folders were included in the "indexed locations", Windows checks the index first, but fails (by design or not) to perform a non-index type of search in case of an index failure. In my case, the index database indeed needed to be rebuilt, as there clearly was something wrong with having all those folders indexed while reporting that only a total of 200 files were actually indexed! So, I decided simply to remove some of the unnecessary folders from the index and then proceeded to rebuild the database. That solved the problem.
