I should have come here first, but for several weeks, I started having serious crashing, freezing, then the dreaded BSOD on my upgraded W7 PC.

Finally it wouldn't even boot back in W7. I could not find my Upgrade Disk or Repair Disk at the time, but I had a Ubuntu Disk. So I foolhardy installed Ubuntu on a 2nd HDD in my system, think I would be able to fix W7 later.

Now I've found the W7 (upgrade) disks. But I can't repair W7 nor can't figure out how to re-install, it doesn't give me that option, that I can find. I've removed the Ubuntu drive, but Grub is still installed.

I would like to do a clean install (since I have already backed up my important files using Ubuntu).

Will following this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91339-ssd-hdd-optimize-windows-reinstallation.html do the trick?

Once I get it re-installed, and if it crashes again, I'll do the memtest and other troubleshooting found here.

Is your secondary drive now your primary drive? Make sure your primary drive is set in bios.
You may even want to pull your secondary drive, for the time being.

Then follow instructions above...

** Oh, and make sure your boot sequence is CD/DVD drive first **

My W7 drive is the primary, the Ubuntu was the slave and I have pulled it.

I am able to boot to the DVD. When you say follow the instructions above are you referring to Optimize Windows for Re-installation?

Thank you.

Hi there
I think you need to get rid of GRUB which is causing (probably) the problem.

Do a fixmbr to get rid of GRUB on the boot sector of the disk --then you should be able to boot a windows 7 install disk and then install OK.

If you have an old XP / W2K install disk then boot this and go to REPAIR using the recovery console where you can use FIXMBR.

If you haven't got an old XP disk use something like GPARTED to totally remove all partitions and then your W7 install disk should work fine.

Cheers
jimbo
