I'm completely frustrated here. Am I the only one who has the Ctrl + Alt + C shortcut in my Windows 7? 'Cause... it's really messing with me. That's the Canvas Size shortcut in Photoshop, but now when I try to change Canvas Size, it CLOSES MY WINDOWS AND TRIES TO SHUT DOWN!

Why is there no documentation for this keyboard shortcut?

And most importantly, how can I disable it???

Well, I definitely did no such thing, but that's neither here nor there... how can I stop it from happening?

(And I'm sorry I double-posted this problem... when I realized I was in the Tutorials section here, I thought it was not the right place, so I found a thread and re-posted. :o)

Edit: I deleted the other post.

Long Con,

I'm not sure what to tell you since this is not a default shortcut in Windows 7. The only thing I can suggest to double check any shutdown type shortcuts that you have to see if one of them may have mistakenly had this keyboard shortcut assigned to it. :(

Long Con,

You can right click on the shortcut, and click on Properties to check it like in the tutorial below to see if it has this shortcut key assigned to it. You would only need to check any shutdown shortcuts that you have since it shutdowns your computer when you use that keyboard shortcut.

But I don't have a Shutdown program or separate shutdown method installed. And when I right-click on the 'Shutdown' button in the Start Menu, I just get Taskbar and Start Menu Properties.

Do you have a keyboard that have buttons or macros that you may have assigned the shutdown command to this keyboard shortcut?

I suppose for now, if you like as a test or until you can find the source of the keyboard shortcut, you could to create a new administrator account, then copy all of the contents of the old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) folder.

This way you can see if the new user account will have this shortcut in it or not.

If not, and after everything checks out ok, you can delete the old user account while logged in the new user account if you do not want the old user account anymore.

Long Con,
Filling out your System Specs will help us help you.

This problem hasn't always been there on your computer.

What's the chance that you can remember what you installed and then afterwards the problem showed up?

I've a couple more ideas if these don't pan out, but the answers to these are essential to proceeding.

________________________________________

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

The problem might have been here since I got this computer (a new work one) a couple of months ago. I don't have to use the Canvas Size command in Photoshop very often, which is how I discovered the Ctrl-Alt-C issue.

Anyways, I filled out the spec. :) thank you for your help!

OK.

I assume I am asking too much if you have a system image that you made using Windows 7 Backup and Restore which we would be able to use to put the machine back to the state it was in when you received the computer.

So make a system restore point and then see how far back your system restore points go. Maybe you can find an old one which you can restore back to. If the old one isn't old enough, then you can restore to the one you just made.

Now let we see what we have in the way of tutorials on creating and using restore points.
Here's the link to create a restore point:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/697-system-restore-point-create.html

Here's the link to use a previous restore point:

Not Alone!

If it makes you feel any better, you are not alone. Perhaps it will help someone figure out the solution because I haven't found one.

I have a user running XP 64 bit who started having this issue in the last few weeks after 3 years of never having this happen and using the shortcut at least weekly.

Obviously windows is intercepting the command as one of it's own so I expect an answer to appear on the MS website in, say, 6 months from now.

Since it started a few weeks ago with my user, I'm going to look through the updates and start uninstalling them until I find the culprit. Something must have updated recently in XP.

When I find the offender, I'll post it back here. I'm not sure how it will help you, perhaps there was a 7 update that was done when the computer was setup that you could uninstall. I know I run most of the updates before I hand a system over to a user so perhaps there is something you can uninstall.

...And I found why: Winsplit revolutions . (WinSplit Revolution) . A greate software to manage windows on a big screen or multiple ones. But it comes with this annoying shortcut. As you can see on the help page: http://www.winsplit-revolution.com/help;

Ctrl+Alt+c: This function instantaneously close all windows opened on the taskbar, by sending a WM_CLOSE message to the windows.

Btw, shortcuts can be changed.

Maybe it is not related to your issue. Still, I hope I'll help somebody :-)

Bye!
