Microsoft to reveal Window 7 prices in June

Microsoft will unveil pricing for Windows 7 in a few weeks, a Web site that has accurately predicted past company moves said.

TechARP.com, a Malaysian Web site that correctly named the ship date of Internet Explorer 8 earlier this year and leaked details of an upcoming free Windows 7 upgrade program for users who buy Vista PCs after July 1, said that Microsoft will publicly announce prices for Windows 7 in mid-June.

If 7 is actually the last to see the 32bit Windows I imagine the prices for "8" or whatever the following version will be named will then see lower prices since you wouldn't be seeing 2 for 1 editions packaged together. That should at the time start to reflect the $200-$225 price range Home Premium - $250-$270 Ultimate with just a wild guess as you look back at 9X thru XP retail pricing.

With the Vista Ultimate having seen a drop from $399.99 down to $320 now being the older version it will likely see 7 placed at the $399.99 mark. :(

Well, you never know :) There's always the cheaper "upgrade" if you have a qualifying version of Vista. The most affordable way to get "7" may be to get it preloaded on a new PC or perhaps an OEM copy.

If I have a desk top pc and a notebook, can i get away with purchasing just one copy of win 7? I've asked this question several times and get mixed answers.

If you buy retail then expect to see both 32bit and 64bit editions included together for 2 prices rolled into one. If you buy oem then you are paying out a little over 50% of the retail price for the same edition.

So if you have need for both and not one or the other you actually save somewhat pricewise seeing both priced together rather then separate charges for each. The retail price however sees the advantage of a slight beneficial change in the eula as well there.

I agree, MS needs to lower the price of it's products or I'll be using vista for years to come.

You are sold on this program and I am reading your posts. We still have 10 months to use W7 free. Let's just see what happens in the next few months. We have no idea of prices and remember that I have several computers to upgrade. I read today that Dell may be backing out of the W7 deal if prices remain high. I think I saw that article on a google tech report.

That's the key in my mind.
Hopefully the holiday rush will be such a success for MS that they will help out the 'testers rush' around this time next year and lower their rumored prices to something more affordable
