Hi everyone. I am new here, but I heard good stuff about this forum so I thought I'd see if I can get some help.

I just bought a new desktop and put it together yesterday.
i5 760
Asus p7p55d Deluxe
XFX HD 5850
OCZ 700w
Corsair XMS3

It was working fine, got all the drivers loaded on it but then all of a sudden it started crashing at the welcome screen every time. I removed the drivers for the graphic card and it turns out that solved it. The BSOD shows it as atikmpag.sys, which obviously is the GPU drivers.

It runs just fine as long as the drivers are not installed, but as soon as I reinstall them it crashes. I am completely lost and I have tried everything I know... please help me. I don't know anything about DMP files and how to analyze it, so I really need some help.

It wouldn't let me upload the files as a .dmp extension, so I switched it to .doc, please go ahead and switch it back. I am very new to all this (as you can obviously tell) so please let me know what other info I can provide

Thanks for the quick reply,

I did try older drivers and the same thing happened. I tried both 10.8 and 10.7.

I am gonna try the realtek driver and get right back.

edit: And thanks for the dmp guide, I will do that next time.

Be sure to remove your graphics drivers completely before 'downgrading' to a lower version. I recommend Driver Sweeper.

I tried adding the Realtek driver, but it did not help :/

Still running into the same problem.

I don't know if it is of importance, but I reinstalled w7 just to see if it would have an impact earlier this morning (obviously it did not).

Any other ideas?

I guess I recommend RMAing or returning the video card, and getting a replacement.

So this is most likely a hardware problem then?

I was sort of convinced it was a software issue due to the driver problem. I don't really know much about this stuff though.

Crap :/

Oh well, thanks a lot though, I appreciate the help.

You're welcome. :)

The BSOD is blaming the driver, because that is what was giving the last instructions before the crash. It can be a sign of either hardware or software, but if we eliminate the possibility of a driver issue, we are left with hardware.

I see, so it would be able to run the generic drivers just fine even though it is a hardware issue?

You learn something new everyday :P

Also, one last thing.
I was working on OC the CPU somewhat last night. I had some issues stabilizing it tho so I decided to reset it to factory defaults. Now, I didn't do anything crazy with the voltage or anything, but could that have had an impact as well?

It may have, I hope not. I don't know how it responds to voltage changes or anything, I can't really tell you. :(
