Man, this weekend has been one treat after another

First my receiver decides it doesn't want to send the HDMI signal from my PC to my HDTV on Saturday morning. My previous desktop display, Lenovo L222 22" LCD randomly blacks out so that's why I had been using my HDTV as my PC display. I finally broke down and went a picked up a sweet ASUS M248H 24" LED display which is connected to my machine via the included HDMI->DVI cable and when I fired it up the first thing I did was confirm the right resolution was set, 1920x1080, check! But there was a 3/4" black border around the desktop! WTF?

I open the ATi CCC and confirm my settings are on 1080p, check! Still a black border! I confirm I have the latest ATi driver, 10.8, everything on my machine checks out like it should so I hit up google to see if others are having this problem and whaddayaknow, tons of people are or have experienced it. Come to find out, ATi released a hotfix for this problem in driver 10.9a so I downloaded and installed it. Still have the damn border!

So I go poking around in the CCC playing with all kinds of settings and what not and come to find out there is one called "Scaling Options", I set that to 0% and all is well Man, I was pretty damn close to putting my foot through my shiny new display but now I couldn't be happier

So if you're having issues like this, try upgrading to the 10.9 driver and adjust your scaling. Apparently you could do the scaling thing in 10.8 but you'd have to do it again after a reboot. That's no longer the case with 10.9

After loading new driver, rescale to zero and switch on 'GPU scaling' for films etc (if you have black borders)
RERUN your WEi - or you could get problems
Reboot

Your original receiver problems were prob due to incorrect settings in receiver.
I had to trundle thru various settings on my Yamaha 7.1 which like you is on an ATi card >
DVi>Hdmi 1.3c (cert) adaptor
1.3c (Cert) HDMI lead
Optical Spdif for sound (AGP card)

Receiver settings
"HDMi" channel 4
"Function setup" > "HDMI" >
"Standby Through" = "ON"
"Resolution" = "1080p"
"Aspect" = "SMART"

The above 'fixed' settings work for me (hope you have similar)

I have a 4830 on a 1080p screen and it has been causing problems for me, try revering to 10.7 its much more stable. May not work but.

I might give it a go again on the HDTV one day but i'm loving my ASUS M248H, the thing is lovely! The weird part though is that I have been running my PC via my HDTV for the past 6 months or so with no problems at all, so all of a sudden out of the blue a setting is wrong? I guess weirder things have happened But thanks for the info though.

10.9 is working lovely for me!

If you haven't tried them I have seen a few reports that the 10.9 Hotfix driver,

GPU-78: ATI Catalyst

supposedly fixes that issue. Don't worry about the list of supported cards, they work with all cards HD 2xxx and up.
