to anyone kind enough to help....

Today I installed Windows 7 as I got a virus so formatted my computer at the same time to clear it all up. I had vista before.

Now like a lot of people it can no longer read my graphics card so I assume I need the driver. I have read other peoples similar problems and ran dxdiag. my problem is I dont know which graphics card is in my computer to get the driver!!! and I kno its not reading it I cant open any games I could before due to graphics card errors!!

dx diag shows that.... Hewlett Packard HP G70 Notebook PC
Intel core 2 duo CPU, AND.....chip type under display 'NVIDIA' which im guessing holds relevance.

at moment just telling me standard VGA graphics adapter and main driver VGA. my computer is worthless without this so ill buy a drink somehow to someone who can give me a hand and really appreciate a nice, simple, quick response.

cheers people, and thanks in advance,

craig

Gpu-z will not work in this case like he said it will not read the card

I suggest you look up the laptop from what the seriel number is model or make and go from there if you type in what model or make you have in the search index it will tell you everything about you're unit

Most of the time when i build, buy or upgrade i ussually keep a list of all parts model numbers etc that will trully help you when the moment comes

also as keeping the seriels and model numbers i would flash or burn the drivers and keep them incase this happens again ......... Goodluck and hope you come up with some results on you're search

As mentioned above we'll need your full model # and which version of Windows Seven your runing 32 or 64 bit in order to help.
The HP-G70 comes in a HP G70-400 series(several models) and an HP G70 200 series (several models) Once we know this we can look up what video adapter it has and figure out how to help from their. Thanks. Fabe

I just posted it in another thread, but it applies here too. Why aren't people running Windows Update to get drivers they can't find? I see so many threads like this, but never see anyone suggesting Windows Update. It is much improved for Windows 7, and includes most drivers anyone would ever need. I don't get the aversion to a built-in solution?

If you absolutely must get the drivers elsewhere, all you need to do is go to the Drivers and Support section of HP's website, and put in the model number of your laptop. It will bring you to all available drivers. As for knowing what graphics chip is in there...it is your laptop, so you should either know off the top of your head, or have your original purchase documentation that will give you the specs.

Your Laptop model can be found on the HP support UK site. I'm assuming your running Windows Seven 32 bit if not select the OS Win 7 64bit.
Software & Driver Downloads HP G70-120EM Notebook PC - HP technical support (United Kingdom - English)
Under Graphics it lists either the Nvidia Geforce 9200M GE driver or the Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family Graphics. Which others have already provided for you while I was uploading the Nvidia 9200M GE driver.

If the intel 4 Series chipset Graphics driver isn't the one your laptop has, you might want to try the Nvidia driver.

So here is the Nvidia 9200M GE driver. Dated 09/25/2009 Version 8.15.11.8644A 176.65mb

I have uploaded the driver form the site to RapidShare, Scanned it with MSE (no virus found) and you can download it and save it to your desktop by clicking on the link I've provided.
You will have to choose the Free download and wait for the timer to run down before you will be able to download the file. Here's the link to the driver.

http://rapidshare.com/files/423238411/sp45167.exe

You should now have the driver for your graphics be it the Intel 4 series or the Nvidia.
Just for future issues, when you first register you should always take the time to include all your system specs as well as fill in your location as your model was found on the HP UK site. This will only make it easier for members to find and help you resolve your problem.

Also please post back and let us know if your problem is now resolved and which driver you used so it can help out others that may be looking for answers for the same problem.
Thanks. Fabe

If it is an nVidia card then it's more than likely the 9200M GS as that's their notebook series ;)

This is something I think I need clarity on. I see it happen a lot on here, which leads to my own confusion. When a person is shopping for a laptop, one of the many considerations is the video. Why? Because if you don't need a dedicated graphics card (based on your intended use), you pick one with onboard video to save money and battery life. I'd easily put that decision in the top five questions a person answers when choosing a laptop. Given this, it confuses me why someone wouldn't know if they had the Nvidia (more expensive) or Intel (cheaper) video in the laptop.

I'm asking this honestly, and not to bash anyone, but are people just picking computers off the shelf based on price, and not looking into the specs?

I think the AVERAGE computer user just selects a computer based on their needs and price point sensitivity. I do not think they look to see what the subsystems are. If it turns on and works for them it is good enough. Later on if they have a problem that is when the issue of what is in the laptop occurs. IMHO anyway
