My music etc. in start menu, link to root forlder, not library?

Hi everyone

I dont use libraries and dont like the way that you cant have indivual folder views with them. So when I click on the start menu and have the links for 'music, pictures, video etc' i would like it to link straight to the root folder and not to the library

Does anyone know how to do this?

If you right click on the Library
Then go to properties. You can click on the original host folder and delete it and then add your own by clicking on include a folder

Right click the root directory of your choice and choose "Send to desktop (Create shortcut)" or "create shortcut (will place it where you are currently at in file explorer)".

If you want it in the start menu then drag the shortcut to the start button and pin it to start menu (or to wherever you want to access the shortcut).

I use this technique to pin shortcuts of my choice on the links toolbar and then arrange as required.

I felt the same as you when I first encountered Libraries.

I have now seen the light and am a strong supporter of the concept.

Libraries have simplified my life, especially since I can have folders with, for example, music spread all over the system and yet I can easily access them via libraries. Sure makes backups and transfers easy.

Heck, I've even created a couple of special libraries which are useful to me.

Libraries don't actually move anything on your computer, but rather make the library info accessible easily.

As time goes on, familiarize yourself with more and more of the features and power of libraries. They are here to stay.

Hello Rob, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This can help show you how to change the Start Menu Music button on the dark right side to open to the "C:\Users\(user-name)\My Music" location instead.

thanks for the replies, the last one has done it luckily. I have no need for libraries as all my music and pictures areall stored in one place always, and i always work with the root folder, mucnh easier to not get in any messes!
